Last trimester I took a Painting as a Wellness Tool class at the day program I go to.

A lot of my work was either deliberate Night Vale Fanart or Night Vale inspired in retrospect. :) Cellphone snaps of the Night Vale Art are below. The bottom set are poorer quality than the top set. They're still on display at school, so when I bring them home from the gallery later this trimester, I'll probably take a better photo.

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

01. Art for any of my fics (and yes, you can art Common House Tales if you REALLY want to. You will get access to more things if you're logged into AO3 since I member-lock some stories.)

Some photogenic scenes:

Way of Wishes: Little Apollo wrapping his arms around his adoptive family's merle border collie. Devon (an african american teen) holding up the blanket in Little Apollo's room and little Apollo panicked flailing in reaction. Lyra (an asian teen) clipping little Apollo's bangs up into little antenna and looking excited, Sarah presenting Apollo with his mother's bracelet. Thalassa putting Trucy's spare hat on her head when she comes out to tell the truth to Apollo and Trucy.

Patchwork Polyamory: A furious Franziska running her whip through her fingers behind a furious Daryan confronting Klavier, Apollo twirling Vera into his arms, Miles introducing Vera to Pess [the third] the chocolate Newfoundland he uses as a service dog, Godot and Iris cuddled up next to each other in bed while Lana's in the doorway with an amused expression holding a bag of burgers, Vera teaching a Franziska dressed in little girl play clothes how to finger paint, Machi giving Nick a piano lesson by chords, Klavier kneeling behind an overstimulated Apollo pressing his hands down on his shoulders while Apollo has his hands clenched in the grass of the lawn, Vera fast asleep in Apollo's lap with her head resting on his chest.

Not as Scary as You Think: An apprehensive Soma Cruz with his hand over the sapphire talisman around his neck under a torii gate while Mina gives him an encouraging smile.

Recovering: Hayate with his arm behind a scowling Sasame, helping him sit up properly, with an amused but still serious smile on his face.

Taking fate into her hands: Maureen scrawling out her letter from An Addendum to Intern Maureen's Living Will.

02. Icons/Art for my Welcome to Night Vale headcanons

Cecil: human manifestation is olive-skinned with roughly chin-length sandy brown hair usually chalk highlighted in shades of pink and purple. wears pastels mostly -- has a definite preference for shades of purple and pink. My interpretation of Cecil is a mix of eldritch Cecil (tentacles + a maneuverable shadow + the voice's remoteviewing capabilities) and fibro Cecil, so sometimes he has a wheelchair or a cane.

Carlos: My Carlos tends to be Afro-Latino, usually Afro-Peruvian or Afro-Puerto-Rican, though he has extended family in Mexico and Chile. He's also on the autistic spectrum. Clothingwise he gravitates toward either autumn plaids and science geek shirts.

Maureen: White girl with naturally brown hair. Tends to chalk highlight it in predominantly reds and oranges, but occasionally ventures into green/radioactive yellow-green. She tends to wear her hair either in a fake undercut (the faux undercut side is usually made with either a dutchback OR side french flat twists) OR in full "zombie" style curls. Clothingwise the closest outsider matches to her style are gothic punk and biker chic.

03. More readers.

Day 3

In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Fanfic
Varies. Music is a big inspiration, as is art. I also get inspiration from quotes, other books and movies. Sometimes I get ideas talking to other people in fandom. Sometimes another fandom does something that I want more of, so I write something using the trope/scenario in another fandom.

Common House Tales are actually things that happen in my system's innerworld so they're sort of fanfic personal narratives.

For me I write a lot of versions of fanfic and then I pick them apart later and quilt them together until I like them.

Most often my process is just little snippets of scenes that i quilt square together. Some fics do require more outlining, but that's not my typical preference.

If I get really frustrated with a block, sometimes I just post anyway and usually add a "might be edited later" tag (usually my personal standards are apparently higher than fandom's)... I mean I wrote Foreshadowed based off a really weak Welcome to Night Vale bunny post-episode 55 and I still hate it but at least some of the fandom BNFs disagree because I have kudos from some of them.

The other thing that helps a lot with blocks is sprinting. I'm a co-mod for All Year Sprints, a year-round writing sprints chatroom. Also if you're interested, I'm actually planning on running a Wednesday workshop on the 21st from 7-10pm EST called "Dusting Off The Quill" (it's going to be a mix of round-table discussions about making a writing habit and sprints using art for inspiration). :D

Fanmixing
I usually read the fic thoroughly. Sometimes talk to the author, especially if they also write meta about their universes. I sometimes ask the author if they have particular tastes in music, but grnerally I tend to use my own tastes which is pretty eclectic and go with the mood of the story.

Cosplay
For me, if I'm fascinated by/love a character, I'll probably try cosplaying them. I've been cosplaying since 3rd grade when my class did a Maniac Magee Book Breakfast (I was Maniac Magee -- unfortunately I don't have pictures of that cosplay or the ones I did after that of my interpretation of Cornflower from Redwall or my interpretation of Moaning Myrtle). Generally I do cosplay with found/bought stuff because I can't sew yet.

Day Four

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

I went through some of the comments on the Day 1 and Day 4 posts and either (a) added a few people on tumblr or (b) subscribed to them on AO3. I also commented to the fic writers/artists who gave me gifts to my private account for fandom_stocking.

If anyone's playing catch up and wants to talk feel free to say something here too. My comment policy here is VERY low-key. I'll take even emoticon/one word comments! :)

Day 5

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I honestly, don't really remember what my origin story is to be honest. When I was younger I didn't really keep track of my fandom involvement.

I think my first "true" fandoms where I was reading, writing and cosplaying things were Harry Potter and Redwall, though.

I have a lot of fannish identities spread around.

DreamWriter Emmy (my usually identity online nowadays) was spawned from the events of World Refugees a self-insert KH RPG that forked off that old Zombie Apocalypse meme since it was the name my self-insert character took on to align herself with the people she cared about who saw the world differently.

this account's current name Brides_Koneko (which i'm hoping to change eventually) is a mix of one of my oldest LJ username ladybrighid3333 (Bride is a nickname for Brighid) and my cosplay name Koneko which I used to use exclusively during anime conventions after one of my friends who is an anime fan gave all her friends japanese animal petnames.
