Title: Headmates as Family
Rating: G
Word Count: 161
Line Count: 34
Original/Fandom: Original: Personal Narrative (Plurality: Headmates Collection)
Notes: This is for NaPoWriMo/Poem-A-Day Day 2. It kind of forks off the NaPoWriMo prompt, which was "a poem that takes the form of a family portrait". This was written in collaboration by the system kids, but primarily takes input from Janice, Aeslyn and Maya.
It takes a village
To make a real family
That's what my Uncle tells me
And I think it's true
We might not all be blood
But we work together
Sure we also fight
And don't always agree
But we do try our best
To be a home
And when disagreements happen
There's usually someone
on the outskirts of the family
To remind us about the house rules
That there can be middle grounds
Found or Made
And that Personal Choice
And Authenticity
is ultimately important
You can be a parent
You can be a friend
You can be the child
You can be whomever you are
There's no need to hide
Sometimes the young people
Are wiser than the elders
And sometimes the elders
Have more useful experiences
We all have different troubles
We drag up with our names
Past lives and memories
But we do try to act from love
Because that is where any true shift
Can happen.
