"Hey how are you doing today?"

"Not so good. We didn't sleep that well last night."

"Who am I speaking to this session?"

"I'm Jaden."

"Have you been tracking your sleep and other triggers this week?"

"Yeah... our roommate Sandra's been reminding us because our focus and concentration has been pretty much nonexistent. I don't know how much longer we can do this. I emailed you our chart with the app. Is the center's system down again?"

"Let me take a look. Hmm... yeah that is a little concerning. Do you want me to see if they have a room for you at the hospital or a space in a day program?"

"I don't know. Can you help me sort out if we really need it?"

"Sure. Let's start making a chart using this. You do remember these sheets of paper?"

"Vaguely."

"On this one, I want you to mark what's been happening for you. Double star it if it's the symptoms that bother you the most."

"There. That's kind of terrifying."

"Hmm... so that is kind of a lot of overwhelm. Now take this one and circle what you've been managing to do for self-care."

"Done again."

"You're coping, though it's probably not at your best stage. One last sheet. This one tells me if I really need to send you to the hospital, but we'll talk it out."

"There... I guess we're doing better than we were last time we were this much of a wreck... I don't know if I feel safe though."

"Definitely looks better than you were last time. You're using coping skills a little bit better. You're definitely doing much better from the last time. But I'm a little concerned about your sleeping and the fact that you say you're spacing a little more outside home. I don't think you need to go to the hospital right this moment, do you want to hold this for another week and see how things go?"

"I guess so. But is there anything we can do to manage this right now before next week to try to make things come into better balance?"

"Let's look at the self-care sheet again. It looks like you're remembering most of the activities of daily living, minus the fact that your sleep hasn't been restful. Beyond those, which of these activities are your best grounding anchors?"

"The tactile ones right now, mostly."

"Then, let's make a list of tactile grounding tools you can put in your pocket or wear."

"Well we have our fuzzy scarf. I think Evelyn has a square of velvet from her last craft project. Alice has a small flat stone from the holistic store. Alice also has her fidget toy somewhere."

"What about clothing? I notice you're wearing a textured sweater. THat can be a grounding tool. So can a lap pad. I know you have one of those too."

"I didn't think of that. We do have a lot of textured sweaters and shirts."

"Well here's your list. Your homework for tonight is to make a little travel tactile anchor kit and try to make sure to bring it with you where you go for the week. Are you here enough to leave right now or do you need a few moments to re-center?"

"I think I'm good to leave. If anything comes up, I'll call the clinician and have them let you know what's happening. Otherwise I'll see you next week."

"Okay, see you then Jaden."
